Kei Kusanagi (草薙 桂 Kusanagi Kei) is the main protagonist and narrator of Please Teacher!.
Appearance[]
Kei is a young boy who has tan skin, cut light brown hair and light brown colored eyes, he's usually always seen wearing glasses. Kei has the same extraordinary disease as Ichigo which caused him to be in a "standstill" for three years, so when the story begins he appears to be 15 when he is actually 18.

Kei is a shy but smart and kind-hearted young boy who cares a lot for his family and is very protective of Mizuho.

Kei is an 18-year-old who retains a 15-year-old body after a three year-long "standstill". Standstills are derived from an unknown - possibly psychological - disease that Kei and his friend, Ichigo Morino, have. He tends to be a very frail and shy boy, not often wanting to assert himself when need be. After observing the landing of a UFO while on the bank of the nearby lake and subsequently observing the alien on the lake shore, odd things begin happening to Kei in connection with this alien. The next day, Kei is surprised to find, like everyone else, that one of their teachers quit and a quick replacement was found which just happened to turn out to be Mizuho Kazami. After a few more encounters with each other, Kei is taken to her spaceship where the whole situation goes from bad to worse. Upon striking Marie, a tiny and computer-like helper of Mizuho's, it effectively is unable to perform as well as it seemed to work, which often puts the characters in strange situations if they can't rely on Marie's help. Eventually, after Kei and Mizuho are found in a locked storage room by Kei's uncle and the principal of the school, his uncle impulsively tells the principal that Kei and Mizuho are in fact married. Later, Kei and Mizuho do actually get married, though only the paperwork is done while there was no official ceremony. This whole situation is, of course, kept secret from Kei's friends as Ichigo Morino constantly tries to pair Kei up with a friend of hers, Koishi, and all the while Kei and Mizuho's relationship and affection for each other only grows.

A senior to the main characters, he makes a brief appearance in each episode, but does not actually speak until the 13th episode. He is now 20 years old (while his body is 17 years old). Following the ending of the Please Teacher OVA, his marriage to Mizuho became common knowledge among the students at the school.

Kei was at first nervous Mizuho when she her land on Earth, and surprise to see her again as his new homeroom teacher and neighbor. After he helps her unpack her things, he begins to have to stop in his illness then he stumbles on his things there he discovers that it was she who he saw at night there Kei tries to flee but after the jump of marie he and Mizuho ends up in the Kei bathtub there his uncles I found them they chatted after Kei keeps the secret of Mizuho the next day she teleports him to the warehouse to talk about her and the space tells him the work she does apart from being a teacher also what are the reasons for the space government there Kei tells him his secret not only that he is 18 years old despite looking 15 and it was the cause of his illness that caused him to be in a coma for 3 years there Mizuho fond of him for telling him his secret after they are found by the Kei uncles and by the direct explain the situation to them when Kei and Mizuho could not find an answer Minoru invention that they were married that is why they were hidden making the director believe that they were ca sado there the director asked why if Kei was 15 then Kei explains that she is 18 only that she was delayed for a cause and stayed in high school even the Kei guys confirm it to the director taking responsibility for Mizuho's secret.
After they got married civilly, then Kei comes to live with Mizuho because they are married he receives a call from Herikawa who wants to have a date with Kei haceta but Mizuho follows them without realizing it there they discover her then Kei complains that he did not have to follow him but he fades away Mizuho takes care of him but kisses him for love Kei wakes up knowing that Mizuho took care of him and cares for him not as a teacher but as a wife they both return home holding hands together, they have their honeymoon on the beach, then Mizuho's mother Hatsuho and sister Maho visit her to meet Kei after Kei helps his friend hyoske in a romantic problem he asks Mizuho for help to help both of them resolve their feelings there Kei confides in Mizuho that he loves her and then he has a conversation with Herikawa about his feelings Kei tells him he still doesn't know how to answer Mizuho finds them there they both explain what happened next Maho looks at Mizuho crying while understanding the situation Mizuho had something and n the eye later takes Kei to another planet to tell him what he saw there she tries to destroy Kei but then Maho tells him that Mizuho will be unhappy again he fades Maho thought he was dead but Mizuho arrives to clear things up Kei wakes up in Mizuho's arms then Mizuho says goodbye to Hatsuho and Maho but Maho tells him to interpret things he kisses Kei on the cheek Mizuho sees them but Kei kisses her there.
Then at night, Kei has a jealousy speech with Mizuho for Herikawa's feelings also for Matagu's call there they both decide to see Herikawa and Matagu then Kei tells Herikawa that he is in love with another person then he goes to Mizuho and Matagu where he saw them studying Kei afterwards together with Mizuho they talk about their feelings where they clarify that loving each other is difficult but that they both want to be together.
The next day Kei looks at morino in a fading she tells him about her situation like Kei only that she is 21 years old that Kei tells her like he had to leave his house to not bear the delay due to his illness, she also tells him after what happened with Herikawa she felt weaker because of Kei's response there she asks him to become Herikawa's boyfriend he answers yes since he can't stand seeing morino he suffered from the same illness after Kei tries to get away from Mizuho explaining his situation the next day Herikawa see Kei with morino believing they both had something Kei tries to explain but she will only understand with a proof that he kisses her there he can't but Mizuho sees them then Kei follows her morino explains Herikawa the situation Kei looks for Mizuho but does not find her there he asks marie to transport him to where Mizuho which was the beach of their honeymoon Kei tries to grab Mizuho but she tells him she hates him after he loves him the res ponde the same both kiss and declare that they want to be together but Kei vanishes.
Miziho takes care of him using his technology but it does not work then Mizuho tells him the good and bad memories that helped him understand that they love each other also tell him that if he stops she will stop too Kei is in a memory dream of his school seeing him his sister wanting to be with her that is why he wants to stop to be with her but then Mizuho uses a kind of illegal device that allows him to enter Kei's mind telling him that she will be his wife that they will both be together that they love each other and he will wait to see him again.
They both met when she and Maho wanted to meet Kei where he confused her with his wife, apparently she likes Kei and accepts her marriage she tends to joke with loving Kei afterwards she makes their relationship more open.
At first, they did not get along because Maho did not like Kei and also that his commitment was to keep his secret but then he understood it with Herikawa Maho seemed to trust Kei and like him.
She is Kei's sister and apparently the reason for not continuing with her illness by determining it as seen in her dream, she was also important to Kei but after meeting Mizuho he continues to accept the death of his sister Kozue.
They made Kei live with them in addition to his illness, apparently they are very fond of him and treat him like a son to them.
They both get along well they are good friends they get along they are also reliable friends. It was shown when Kei helps him about Kaede which they both know well when Hyosuke accepted his help he saw that someone likes him too.
They are both good friends, although they don't see each other very often, it is seen that they get along well and that like Hyosuke they chat and get together when they can.
Herikawa and Kei had a friendly relationship but she felt something for Kei, Herikawa asks her on a date which was short at the end, on the beach she talks to Kei with her feelings telling him that she feels something for him but he still does not give her an answer.
Then they have the same one again, only that Kei says he still does not know what he feels for her, Herikawa asks to see her at the station Kei tells him that he loves someone else, then Morino asks Kei for Herikawa's friendship to be her boyfriend there. They both go out only that Herikawa sees Kei and Minoru together misunderstanding him then she asks for a test which is a kiss but Kei leaves for Mizuho then Morino explains everything.
She is one of those who best understands Kei apart from Mizuho when they both talk about his illness saying how it affected him, what happened and what happened in his previous life. Asking Kei that he could not continue for her friend Herikawa who does not accept her feelings from her dying of her asks him to be Herikawa's boyfriend Kei accepts so that she does not go through the same thing again. After forgetting Mizuho, they both move on with their lives.
Being Kei's teacher, both like Kei's friends help him and support him with his airplane work seeing that they get along.
Trivia[]
- As of now, it remains unknown as to what happen to Kei's parents as nether Kei, Minour and/or Konoha had never explained what has happened to them.
- Adding onto that, it's never really explained as to who is the mother and father's brother and sister.
- Kei Kusanagi is very similar to Hajime Murata, a character from an anime show, Shingu: Secrete of the Stellar Wars, seeing as they are both are young teenage boys, both wear glasses and both are the main protagonist of their respective shows, also both characters have a sister (Kei: Kozue, Hajime: Futaba).
- Coincidentally, both Kei and Hajime also serve as the narrators of their respective series.
- Whats interesting to note is that Mizuho's outfit (as in the outfit worn in episodes 1, 6, 10 and 12) is very similar to Kyoko, another character from Shingu: Secrete of the Stellar Wars who is also the mother of Hajime.
- Coincidentally, both Kei and Hajime also serve as the narrators of their respective series.
